09D automatic transmission housing repair

The six-speed automatic transmission TR-60SN was developed by Aisin in the early 2000s for cars with engine capacity over 3 l.. According to the Volkswage Aidu Grup classification, the box received code 09D and was installed on Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Tuareg cars.

The mechanical part of the gearbox is controlled by a hydromechanical control unit (valvebody).

The valve body consists of a dismountable body with oil channels and hydraulic valves controlled by electric drives - solenoids. Inside the valve body, the same oil circulates as in the mechanical part of the gearbox. This oil is called hydraulic fluid ATF. Normal operation of the valve body is due to the standard ATF pressure levels in the oil channels and hydraulic valves of the valve body. At the same time, the gear shift is smooth, without impact and slipping. The engine speed at steady gear is at the same level - the torque converter is locked.

With thet ime and usage of the car, the oil inside the automatic transmission is contaminated with mechanical wear products (fragments of friction coatings , chips of friction units).

When the valve body is operating in dirty oil, mechanical particles enter the channels of the valves, which leads to scratches and wearout inside the channels. Damage of the walls of the valve channels disrupts the normal modes of pressure of the hydraulic fluid and can cause jamming of the valves. The consequence of such damages are problems in gear shifting, floating rpm, shocks and slips when upshifting or downshifting  Which of the listed defects will appear depends on which valve body valve channel will be damaged.

To determine the problem areas of the valve body housing, the specialists of the company Maktrans use an original technique, the essence of which is to create a reduced pressure in the tested channels. The valve plunger is inserted into the channel, after which vacuuming takes place. If the pressure does not increase, then the channel is OK, if there is bleeding, then there is a wearout in the channel and it needs to be restored.

Below are examples of defective channels, scratches and woearouts are visible even with a small zoom. The images are made for a visual demonstration of the hidden defects of the valve body housing.

To solve problems with damaged areas,  Maktrans spaecialists use channel bushings (booster). It is a bushing that is installed in a pre-bored channel and exactly repeats the geometry of the original surface of the valve channel. The bushing is made of high-quality aluminum and provides the necessary level of compression in the hydraulic system. After the sleeve is inserted into the channel, the whole valve is assembled (installation of the plunger, spring, lock). The process of manufacturing and installation of the bushing is carried out on machines with numerical control, which provides the necessary level of accuracy.

Thus, any valve channel in the valve body is repaired.

This is how the installed valve channel bushing looks:

Other types of repair bushings (pressure modulator and torque converter lock-up valve)

Regardless of the location of the defective channel, it is possible to repair both the upper and lower hydroplates (the components of the torque converter).

To solve the problems with shifting gears from 1 to 3, the valve channels k1, k3, b1 are repaired

At the end of the repair, each valve body undergoes a complete check of the reconstructed sections. After installation in the car all modes of automatic transmission operation are checked. The quality of repair is confirmed by a test drive.

The valve bodies reconstructed by Maktrans specialists  correspond to the performance characteristics of the new valve bodies. The cost of repairs and a 1-year warranty compete favorably with the purchase of used parts.

09D automatic transmission valve body solenoid repair

Electromechanical actuators for controlling the valve bodies` valves - solenoids, are also exposed to contaminated oil. Over time, a sediment of impurities of the hydraulic fluid accumulates inside the solenoid, which causes a malfunction of the valvebody valve. Disruptions in the operation of automatic transmissions are manifested in the same way in the form of thumps, slippage and fuzzy switching of gears. Depending on the location in the valve body, fthe solenoids of the gearshift, clutch and solenoid of the ATF line pressure control are distinguished.

As an example, consider the operation of 90 and 283 solenoids .

N90 solenoid is a normally closed solenoid with pulse width modulation (PWM), it controls the clutch K3 switching on and off. When this solenoid is completely turned off, the clutch K3 is fully engaged. If this solenoid fails (error code in VAG 00262) in the "Off" position (normally closed), the 3-gear t and the Revers can be accompanied by thumps.

N283 solenoid is a normally closed solenoid which controls the clutch B1. If this solenoid fails in the "Off" position (normally closed), thumps may occur during the shifting to 2nd gear.

Thus, in case of failure of  90 and 283 solenoids, problems with the third, second and reverse gears occur.

One solution to the problem with faulty solenoids is to replace them with new ones. In addition to such repairs, Maktrans specialists  offer a service to restore the efficiency of the solenoids. For this purpose, the solenoids are completely disassembled and are completely cleaned, the faulty parts are replaced with new

After that, the solenoids are assembled and installed on the stand to check all operating modes.

The oil temperature during the test reaches 100 degrees Celsius, which completely corresponds to the real operating conditions of the solenoid in the valve body of the operating car.
If there are no pressure dips during the operation of the solenoids, then the recovery process is completed successfully. Further, the restored solenoids are installed in the valve body of the automatic transmission and the vehicle undergoesroad tests. Regeneration of solenoids allows to restore the efficiency of automatic transmission for affordable money without the need to purchase a new pack of solenoids.
Warranty for work performed 1 year without mileage limitation.
