The six-speed automatic transmissions 6T30 (encoded by the manufacturer MH9) and 6T40 (encoded by the manufacturer MH8 / MHB) were developed by the engineers of the General Motors auto concern for front-wheel drive vehicles with an engine capacity of up to 2.4 liters (6T30 - up to 2 liters, 6T40 - up to 2.4 liters). Both transmissions were released in the Hydra-Matic series and are a continuation of the five-speed versions of GM automatic machines. External differences in the mechanical parts of the boxes are minimal and correspond to the maximum power of compatible engines (6T30 - up to 140 hp, 6T40 - up to 180 hp)

These boxes have one design flaw, or a weak point, namely, valves in the valve body (automatic transmission hydraulic control unit) - when the mileage of 100-150 thousand kilometers is reached, these valves will “clog”, the integrity of the anodized coating is violated, in the photo below you can see typical damage. This leads to jamming of the valves during the operation of the hydraulics, and the driver feels this as shock / slipping during gear changes.

 

                             The cause of such damage is the failure to comply with technological standards during the anodizing process.

We have developed a technology for repairing such valve bodies, it is simple and consists in replacing the valve with a new valve in a standard size, that is, the use of any tools to replace the valve is not required. At the same time, the coating of our plungers is cold hard anodizing, which is highly resistant to mechanical and abrasive damage and greatly surpasses the original valve in these characteristics. Captiva arrived to repair with complaints of jerks when switching from 1 to 2, from 2 to 3 gears,valve body was removed and dismantled,  all valves were damaged, see the photo below.

 

We start with Compensator Feed Regulator, in the photo below you can see a worn valve (left) and a new one, manufactured by Maktrans (right)

We are checking the damaged plunger vacuum- tester,  install a new one and also check it. Thus, we increased the tightness of the channel + plunger pair to the required values.

 

Now we are checking 3-5 Reverse Clutch Regulator valve , and replace for a new  one.

 

Now  Сlutch Boost valve. It's a little different here, the vacuum tester shows good performance, but the valve still needs to be replaced because the coating has critical damage. That is, the vacuum tester in these cases does not guarantee 100% operability of the plunger.

That's all, this is how valve body repair looks like by replacing the valves with new ones. Of course, it should be understood that such a repair technology will not allow you to successfully restore 100% of the valve body, quite often the wearout is not only on the valve, but also in the channel in which it works, in such cases, oversized plungers must be used:
